Ron was born in Dorchester, the son of an army officer and a German mother.

Educated at an all boys school in Fareham Ron went onto Warwick University, King Alfred's College (now Winchester University) and Southampton University. He holds a Master of Arts in literature - his specialism being 19th century British and American literature.

His early influences were Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Dickens, DH Lawrence and the Bronte sisters. His favourite novel to this day is Wuthering Heights. Ron also has a profound interest in the works of Algernon Blackwood and Bram Stoker where he finds inspiration for the macabre and the horrific. Influences in the detective genre include Mickey Spillane, Len Deighton and Conan Doyle.

Renaissance painting and sculpture are of particular interest to Ron who enjoys nothing more than visiting art galleries in the far flung corners of the world. Travel and exploration of places new are of profound interest to him and many of these locations create a backdrop to his writing.

Having been a journalist and undertaken a variety of jobs, Ron became an English teacher some years ago. He has presented seminars and workshops on creative writing and also taught German and History.
